Care Services Improvement Partnership

Identifying benefits

Aims

What MHIP did

The benefits to be realised through the delivery of the MHIP programme were identified. This occurred at a variety of stages.

The initial stage was in the engagement of pilot sites in to the programme. For this NIMHE worked with each of the pilot sites to identify the high level benefits unique to each site. Examples included:

Then, at the commencement of the programme each pilot site held launch events to engage stakeholders and identify the benefits. These benefits were grouped in to 4 “Areas for Improvement”:

Further details of these can be found in the MHIP Service Improvement Framework

Each pilot site created a series of workstreams through which to deliver their programme. The projects within the workstreams, and the workstreams themselves all identified benefits. In effect a pyramid of benefits was thus built up to realise the overall programme benefits. The programme planning ensured the realisation of the benefits was effectively tracked and evidenced.

In the second year of the programme the ISIP (Integrated Service Improvement Plan) was also introduced nationally across all health economies. All pilot sites were able to make a significant contribution to these through the work commenced in MHIP. Included in the ISIP was a large section on benefits realisation.
