Regional Development Centres (RDCs) help bring about improvements in health and well-being in three ways:
- Developing the capacity and capability locally to achieve improvements in delivery;
- Supporting policy implementation; and
- Supporting the development of policy.
Each RDC has experienced teams of staff with a background in either statutory, voluntary and independent sectors. They draw from specialist knowledge in social care, mental health, children and families and health and social care in criminal justice.

RDCs also employ carers and people who use services directly to help ensure the implementation of policy is centred on people's real needs.
