25 March 09 - Mental Health Profiles Launch

Gonville Hotel, Cambridge.

The Eastern Development Centre, the Eastern Region Public Health Observatory (ERPHO) & the East of England Strategic Health Authority held a launch meeting to introduce health and social care commissioners/directors/leads and representatives to the regional Mental Health profiles:

"Here at the Eastern Development Centre we know the importance of effective commissioning to combat health and social care inequalities. So, in partnership with the Eastern Region Public Health Observatory and the East of England Strategic Health Authority we have developed the "Mental Health Profiles".

Mental Health Profiles offers an overview of the mental health of the adult population in an area, which together with other local information, contributes towards the action being taken by the NHS, primary care trusts, and local government as they commission plans for mental health services. Mental Health profiles help to promote:

  • Equality and fair access,
  • choice and independence;
  • the identifying of longer term health care inequalities
  • the improvement of health and well being;
  • service change and performance management "

Dean Pinnock , Equalities Programme Manager, Eastern Development Centre

"The Mental Health Profiles (MHP) really do compliment our regional strategy here in the East of England "Towards the Best Together". It is a wonderful strategic tool for the NHS. We can now ensure a more targeted service to the people of our region, particularly BME groups."

Jess Lievesley, Commissioner, Public Health, (MH/LD), NHS East of England

These profiles, which are the first of there kind, detail Primary Care Trust level information around Mental Health and Learning Disabilities. It is planned that over the coming years they will be essential to health and social care commissioning personnel, equalities leads, policy makers, public health and strategic leaders across the region. We are keen to gain your feedback as we intend to consult widely in future years.

The launch gave a deeper understanding to the value that the profiles carry currently and with guidance and advice from ‘the user perspective' how invaluable they will become in future years.
