Care Quality Commission consultation: mental health strategy

From April 2009, the Care Quality Commission took charge of regulating health and adult social care services, including mental health services. They are currently developing their plan for their work on mental health over the next three to five years. They are really keen to get people's views to help develop this plan and to work with people who use mental health services to improve the care and support they need. They have two key questions they would like your views on:

  1. Where does the Care Quality Commission need to focus its efforts in the next three to five years to really make a difference in mental health?
  2. How should the CQC involve people who use services and their families or carers in developing, implementing and monitoring the strategy for their work on mental health?

If you would like to give the CQC your views, it would be really helpful if you could you get in touch with them by Monday 17th August 2009 so that they can take account of your views in developing their plan. Any views received after this time would also be very welcome and can help them on an ongoing basis to help put the plan into action.

People can give their views by:

  • Sending an email: mentalhealthstrategy@cqc.org.uk
  • Writing to the CQC (no stamp required): Nicola Vick, Mental Health Strategy Team, Care Quality Commission, 13th Floor, Finsbury Tower, 103-105 Bunhill Row, LON 15399 FREEPOST, London, EC1B 1QW
  • Calling the CQC: phone Jay Harman, Policy Manager, Care Quality Commission on 01159 437 104 (an answerphone will be available from 5pm to 9am Monday to Friday and over the weekends).
