RDC Positive Practice Awards

We describe positive practice as:

"Relationships between people and the groups in which they live and work are central to a healthy life. Positive Practice recognises the centrality of these relationships to promoting, restoring and maintaining mental health. It also recognises the importance of healthy and respectful relationships in providing the basis for the provision of all health and social care and support. As such, Positive Practice is therefore concerned with the identification, and promotion of these activities which enhance and support the work of mental health services at an individual, team or organisational level."

The awards began in 2003 as the National Institute for Mental Health in England (NIMHE) Positive Practice Awards. There were just six categories celebrating the quality of work of mental health services.

Since then, Regional Development Centres have expanded the number of categories. In 2007, RDCs awarded 12 categories that mirrored current policy developments in health and social care. RDCs also extended the list of awards to emphasise the integrated role of public health, social care and health services.

In showcasing the work of winners and highly recommended individuals across the regions, we hope other colleagues in health and social care will hear about the good practice that is available to assist them in improving services in their local communities.
